Model 5 - Seaside Model (scale 1:40)

Comments

For this model I took inspiration from south coast, particularly around Vincentia and Green Patch, where the Aussie bush meets the sea.

My goal with this model was to build something that would slide into the natural slope of the coast, and provide a focused view on the sea. To do this I decided not to put windows on the sides of the building, but having finished the model I wouldn't do this in real life.

Model 4 - Small Homes (Scale 1:30)

Comment

Seven years ago I lived in a micro-studio that my boyfriend had built. It was - in total - 9m2. It made me completely rethink what 'home' meant, and everything inside had to at least have dual-function - anything less, and there wasn't justification in it being there.

I've been a little bit in love with small homes ever since. They force a simplicity of living that I find really desirable, and authentic. Making a small home that was both simple and authentic was my goal for this model. I think my structure really achieves those goals.

Week 9 - Model 3 & pre-work (Scale 1:40)

Comments

Isolation has meant that I'm spending a lot more time with my son in the house, and we spend a lot of  that time playing in cubbies. So for this model, my goal was to create a treehouse that would be both beautiful to look at, and a fun place for both younger and older children to play.

Sans any actual trees to establish height, I created two sets of stilts to elevate my treehouse, and made the stabilising bar dual-function by building a swing set into it.

I've didn't want to fully enclose the model because it would assume too much about the environment it might exist in. Instead, I built up most of the pentagonal walls so a client could see the effect of the completed piece, but still envisage what it would look like in their own tree setting.

Week 9 - Model 2 & pre-work (scale 1:40)

Comments

This week I went on a walk to the end of our road, where there is a great view from the drop-off of the Blue Mountains. By the time I got home it was dark, and with little light pollution, the sky was filled with stars.

My aim for this model was to create a studio space that would suit these surroundings - something that would showcase the amazing view to the drop-off by day, and something that would let the sky in at night.

The picture below is the drop-off.

Week 8 - Models (Physical model scale 1:33) and Fusion renderings

Digital Sketch

Fusion - three rendered images

I selected my materials to render my initials in based off their sleekness and simplicity. My 3D initial design is intricate enough, with multiple curves already capturing the eye, so simple renders I think work best.

My first materials are Gemstone - Ruby with a Copper Polished face (this allowed the contrast in the image below):

My second image is rendered with Coating - Titanium Nitride:

My final image is rendered with Glass (Blue)
